Belhaven University s Master of Education in Reading Literacy program is an online degree in reading education that offers advanced skills and specialized training for teachers who want to impact schools in the area of reading. This Master of Reading program prepares students for today’s educational system where there has been a heavy emphasis on evaluating academic achievement. Teachers who enroll in the program will learn how to diagnose and assess student reading problems, as well as improve their own and other teachers ability to meet those needs.

Admission Information

Students who hold an undergraduate degree in education or have completed a teacher preparation program may apply to the Master of Education degree program with evidence of holding or being eligible to hold a Standard license in the area of emphasis for which the student is seeking degree.

  • A 2.75 cumulative GPA from undergraduate work is required for admission or a minimum GPA of 3.0 on any graduate work previously completed.
  • Provide evidence of holding a valid standard teaching license.
  • Applicants who do not meet the regular admission requirements, but show the potential for success in the MEd program must earn a 3.00 grade point average on the first nine semester hours of graduate work in order to continue in the program. Students may be asked to submit an essay or recommendations for review by the program committee.
